Even if you are making plans to move on from your current job or organization it still has an emotional impact if the decision and timing is made for you.
If you find yourself in this situation you wont' be able to fully embrace what is coming your way. if you are constantly looking back with heavy emotions. Is there anything outstanding for you in your previous employment relationship? What do you need to resolve or release to give your full attention and energy to what is ahead. Dr. Brene Brown says vulnerability is our most accurate measurement of courage. In this engaging follow up to her first TED Talk in Houston the year before (see previous post) she throws an important stake in the ground. Executives please take note. Dr. Brown goes on the record to say vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change. Dr. Brene Brown rocked the world in 2010 with her TED Talk Houston. At the time of this post, Dr. Brown's TED Talk has been viewed almost 15 million times. Her brilliant discussion about shame and vulnerability highlights how our experience at work is impacted by our personal sense of worthiness and our willingness to be vulnerable. Our willingness to let ourselves be seen creates an amazing experience! Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat, Pray, Love, talks about our individual, beloved vocation and the importance of embracing it. Elizabeth challenges us to think about what we love in this world more than we love ourselves. The thing we can dedicate ourselves to with a singular devotion. What is your vocation? Miriam and I are writing our third book. We love to write! We love creating helpful tools for our readers.
The working title is A Relief Guide For Clergy - How to Turn Off When Everyone Expects You to Be On. And....we have a commitment from a very important figure to write the Introduction for this book. More to come! Ever wondered if you can change your experience at work without changing jobs? And how working with a coach could help? Check out this video book review by motivational speaker Lakeisha McKnight. In the interest of full disclosure Lakeisha is reviewing our first book, Teacher's Pet: Clarity, Choice and Action. Enjoy! If this describes your experience, you are in good company.
In a new survey* the findings show leaders at the top are among the lonliest people. Nearly 2/3 of CEOs surveyed do not receive outside leadership advice - but nearly all want it. Who do you turn to for trusted advice? Who is your sounding board? *conducted by the Center for Leadership Development and Research at Stanford Graduate School of Business, Stanford University’s Rock Center for Corporate Governance, and The Miles Group http://www.gsb.stanford.edu/cldr/research/surveys/coaching.html I didn't know what was missing in my experience as a business owner until I made the decision to become a founding member of the JV Insider Circle. After life as a coroporate officer I enjoyed 13 years of micro-business. Yes, I collaborated with respected colleagues along the way to design and deliver hig impact solutions for organizations and executives. Yes, I had 2 books and dozens of articles published. Even with all of that success I am having more fun than ever seeking out joint venture partners. The process required we start by getting really clear about the impact we want to have with our clients. The next step was to get really curious about the impact others want to have. The magic? The intersection of our efforts. The place we can create together. The place to grow our businesses together. Can you imagine getting into alignment with another business owner who share your passion? Simply magic! Most of the time I love being lost in my work. Enjoying it so much I lose track of the time. This time it's a different kind of lost. I am grateful that self-employment allows me the flexibility to be there for those I love most when they need me. A fammily emergency in late 2011 through the early summer of 2012 diverted my attention. I kept things going in my business during this time but I'm back. Full attention - because I love my job and the flexibility it affords me.
